El Misti is an active and very symmetrical volcano located over the white city of Arequipa (2380 meters), the second largest city in Peru. This area was an important settlement area since before the Inca.
Arequipa is surrounded by high volcanoes that offer good opportunities for mountaineering. Chachani at 6,057m. has routes suitable for both well and less experienced climbers. There is a base camp at 5.000 meters. Misti at 5,820 meters high volcano offer equally great views, and is more suitable for beginners.
