Main Info
The fantastic ice range of the Cordillera Huayhuash is renowned for knife-edged 20,000-foot peaks that attract mountaineers from around the world. Seven of Peru’s highest peaks rise from this dramatic massif, whose awesome beauty can be seen in the gripping adventure film Touching the Void.
Our challenging 12- 14-day treks crosses eight high passes as we circle the entire range, with nearly continuous panoramas of towering Andean giants, including Yerupaja (21,759′), second highest mountain in Peru. Our adventure culminates in an optional climb of Diablo Mudo (17,235′), a non-technical snow peak with panoramic views across the entire Huayhuash. Sunny blue skies, mild daytime temperatures, and a profusion of edelweiss and purple lupine make these mountains an alpine paradise.
We can organise this trek on a ‘tailor-made’ private basis for groups of friends, families, clubs, charities or any other group. Depending on your trekking experience, with the assistance of local guides. The cost of going private can be surprisingly reasonable. The Best weather are:
The best season for climbing and trekking in peru is during the Andean Winter (late April to September). The weather in the Cordillera Huayhuash is among the best found in the entire Andean Range. Early season conditions will include seasonal snow cover on the glaciers, while later in the season conditions become icy and the wind increases. We’ve found the period of May-August the best. Although storms can occur, long periods of stable, dry weather are prevalent. However, like all big mountains such as Yerupaja , Siula Grande, the peaks of the Cordillera Huayhuash generate and attract their own weather making it impossible to predict. Be prepared for a wide range of temperatures; from freezing nights, to snowy and windy conditions, to bright sunshine intensified by the high altitude. This wide fluctuation in temperatures makes it important to bring everything on the equipment list.
