Climbing Cordillera Blanca

The Ishinca Valley is located just outside of Huaraz, and is an excellent location to climb a variety of peaks. This trip will ascend a variety of climbs that are great for beginning high altitude climbers wanting to gain high altitude climbing experience. The short approach provides for a maximum amount of time to acclimate and learn glacier, snow and ice climbing skills.

Maparaju is a nice and small mountain to get a good acclimatization and to get views, that mountains cayesh , huantsan , san juan and others.

Yanapaccha is located near the head of Quebrada LLanganuco, not far from Pisco and Chacraraju. The name Yanapaccha means “black waterfall” in Quechua, although the usual west face route is anything but black. Perhaps the name relates to its appearance from the Portachuela Llanganuco, which would be the opposite face.

Vallunaraju at 5,686m., is one of the few peaks in the Cordillera Blanca , that can be seen directly from Huaraz as well from Cordillera Negra.

Pisco is an achievable climb for anyone who is well acclimatized and fit and is a suitable climb for novice climbers and also is a demanding climb for experienced climbers. Most of the way is not steep and not technical.
